Georgia football coach Richt makes recruiting visit in jail

Georgia football coach Mark Richt met with an elite recruit in jail Wednesday night, but not because the player was incarcerated.

Georgia football coach Mark Richt met with Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.) linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons in jail Wednesday night because the recruit, who works for his grandfather's bail bond service, was bailing out a customer.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Richt was visiting Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.) linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons, considered the No. 1 prospect in the state by Rivals.com and ESPN.com.

Richt was with Harvey-Clemons and members of Clemons' family at church when the recruit, who works for his grandfather's bail bond company, had to go, along with his grandfather's daughter, to bail out a customer.

Richt initially stayed with the service, but when the daughter forgot her ID in a van at church, Richt and assistant coach Mike Bobo drove to the jail to bring the ID and then continued to meet with Harvey-Clemons for "20 to 30 minutes," the Journal-Constitution quoted the grandfather, Woodrow Clemons.

"My kids are at the age where they have to work and do something," Woodrow Clemons told the Journal-Constitution. "They've got to start learning about the real world. And with being bond agents, they can pick up the 'fear' of going to jail Josh understood he had to go do this. I own the business and one day Josh will own part of it, so he knows the responsibilities that come with it. And it definitely beats working at Walmart or a hamburger joint."
