Previews and predictions for Sept. 3 Southern Indiana games

 

Here's a look at tonight's top games in Southern Indiana:

BEDFORD NL AT JEFFERSONVILLE

When: 7 p.m.

Records: BNL 1-1 (0-0 in Hoosier Hills Conference); Jeff 0-2 (0-1)

Game notes: The Stars have won the past two meetings, but Jeff leads the series 25-9. BNL won last year's game 16-12 as Kraig Smoot ran for 141 yards and Jacob Perry scored the winning touchdown with 1:55 left. Andrel Williams had 109 yards rushing for the Red Devils against BNL last year, but he was injured last week and his status is questionable. Smoot has run for 206 yards and two TDs this season. Jeff has had four turnovers in each game this year, the reason Bob Redman is still searching for his first win as coach of the Red Devils. Jeff QB Dalton Conway was 14of29 for 201 yards last week against Seymour.

MADISON AT FLOYD CENTRAL

When: 7 p.m.

Records: Madison 0-2 (0-0 in HHC); Floyd Central 1-1 (0-0)

Game notes: Floyd Central won last year's game 38-29 and leads the series 29-15 after three straight wins. The Highlanders' Kyle Bramble has rushed for 360 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 6.5 yards per carry. Bramble had four TDs in last week's 25-13 win over Providence. Madison's Ryan Fish had 216 yards rushing and two TDs in last week's 23-12 loss to South Dearborn. The Cubs are 0-2 after losing two home games, but all three of Madison's wins last year came on the road.

NEW ALBANY AT JENNINGS COUNTY

When: 7 p.m.

Records: New Albany 1-1 (0-0 in HHC); Jennings County 0-2 (0-0)

Game notes: New Albany's offense has been explosive, averaging 38.5 points per game. Quarterback Chris Whitehead has rushed for 479 yards and scored eight TDs, and running back Jalen Forrest had 151 yards and two TDs in last week's 31-22 comeback victory over Castle. Jennings County allowed 360 yards rushing against Greensburg last week. Jennings County won last year's game 30-14 as Iyan Bass had 192 rushing yards and three TDs to help the Panthers end a five-game losing streak against the Bulldogs.

PROVIDENCE AT MITCHELL

When: 7 p.m.

Records: Providence 1-1; Mitchell 0-2

Game notes: Providence won last year's game 42-0 and has won four straight in the series. Mitchell has been outscored 168-14 in those games. Spencer Corrao paced last year's win with 150 yards and a TD; Mitchell lost five fumbles. Mitchell is trying to avoid its third straight 0-3 start. Corrao has rushed for 370 yards and 5 TDs this season.

CHARLESTOWN AT CLARKSVILLE

When: 7 p.m.

Records: Charlestown 1-1 (0-1 in Mid-Southern); Clarksville 0-2 (0-1)

Game notes: Charlestown won last year's game 43-8 and has won three straight in the series, which Clarksville leads 22-18. The Pirates were decked 47-8 by Brownstown last week while giving up three turnovers, a safety and 278 rushing yards. Clarksville suffered a 28-26 loss at Eastern Pekin last week, but QB Wes Rittman completed 25 of 31 passes for 246 yards and two TDs. The Generals are looking for the first win under new coach Steve Cooley. Charlestown coach Jason Hawkins is a Clarksville grad who has never lost to his alma mater.

EASTERN PEKIN AT WEST WASHINGTON

When: 7 p.m.

Records: Eastern Pekin 2-0; West Washington 2-0

Game notes: West Washington won last year's game 22-16 and has won all three meetings in the series. The Senators are ranked No.17 in Class A. Eastern Pekin is 2-0 for the first time in the program's brief history. Ryan Tandy ran for 142 yards and a TD in Eastern Pekin's 28-26 victory over Clarksville last week. The Musketeers attempted only one pass. Tandy has totaled 320 yards and three TDs this season.

Sagarin ratings:: Eastern Pekin 33.69; West Washington 46.63

SALEM AT NORTH HARRISON

When: 7 p.m.

Records: Salem 0-2 (0-0 in Mid-Southern); North Harrison 0-2 (0-1)

Game notes: Both teams have struggled defensively so far. The Lions are allowing 37 points per game, and they surrendered five touchdown passes last week against West Washington. The Cougars have given up 44.5 points per game, capped by Corydon's 48-point performance last week.

Sagarin ratings:: Salem 38.35; North Harrison 32.55

CRAWFORD COUNTY AT PERRY CENTRAL

When: 8 p.m.

Records: Crawford County 0-2 (0-1 in PLAC); Perry Central 0-2 (0-0)

Game notes: Perry Central won last year's game 48-12 and has won the three games in the series by a combined score of 146-12. The Wolfpack has lost 13 consecutive games. The Commodores are 0-2 for the first time since 1995.

Sagarin ratings:: Crawford County 10.05; Perry Central 41.85
