Palm Springs High School football coach holds the "Mercury Trophy" he created for a game against Palm Desert High School.
The Indians kick off their season opener at 7 tonight when they host Palm Desert in a non-Desert Valley League matchup.
Palm Springs head coach Steve Fabian spoke with the Palm Springs Sun this week about the team and the game against the Aztecs.
Question: How do you beat Palm Desert?
Answer: We've got to be consistent and get off the ball and control their offense. We can't go three and out, and if we don't score, we have to move the ball down the field.
Who's your quarterback?
Dane Giedeman; Nick King will be backing him up and splitting time with him.
Of course, CIF offensive player of the year Nephi Garcia is still your running back, right?
Right now.
Are you going to be more of a running team than a passing team?
We're going to try to be balanced.
Giedeman is young and we have to bring him around nice and slow. We have to control the ball -- if it takes running, we'll run, if it takes throwing the ball, we'll throw it.
Do you think you can repeat as CIF champions?
I think we can try to win our first game and then we'll go from there; I'm not going to make any wild predictions about the championship.
