Pike High School senior basketball star Marquis Teague and Ben Davis' Bria Goss have been named McDonald's All-Americans.

Teague, a 6-2 University of Kentucky signee, will be joined on the 24-player boys team by Washington's Cody Zeller (Indiana recruit) and Gary Wallace's Branden Dawson (Michigan State). Goss (Kentucky) made the girls team.

Both McDonald's All-American games will be played March 30 at the United Center in Chicago with the girls' game televised on ESPNU at 6:30 p.m. and the boys' game on ESPN at 9 p.m.

Teague, who is averaging 22.2 points per game this season, is ranked as one of the top 10 players nationally in the senior class by scouting services. Zeller is the third member of his family selected for the country's most prestigious high school all-star game, joining brothers Luke (2005) and Tyler ('08). Goss is averaging 21.9 points per game for the Class 4A No. 1 ranked Giants.

Family tradition

In a sectional with little recent tradition, Tindley senior Kabrina Merriweather has rare basketball bloodlines.

Her sister, Katrina, was an Indiana All-Star from Cathedral and played at the University of Cincinnati. Her grandfather, Willie Merriweather, was a member of Crispus Attucks' state championship team in 1955 and an Indiana All-Star that season before playing at Purdue. Her father Kevin, the Tindley coach, played at Attucks and the University of Indianapolis.

"She's representing the family name," her father said after Kabrina had 19 points and a career-high 32 rebounds in a 34-23 victory over host Attucks in the opening round of the Class A sectional Tuesday night.

Tindley (12-5) will play International (12-8) in the semifinals today at 6 p.m. at Attucks, followed by Shortridge (12-5) and University (5-15). Tindley, seeking its first sectional title in its five seasons as a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, is the favorite in this nine-team sectional that has only one program that has been playing continuously for as long as a decade -- Indiana Deaf -- and a combined total of six sectional championships.

New Law at Broad Ripple

Anthony Law, 41, has been recommended as the football coach at Broad Ripple, pending school board approval, Indianapolis Public Schools athletic director Victor Bush said. Law is originally from Gary, Ind., where he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1988. He was one of nine candidates interviewed for the job, which opened when Bob Ashworth announced his retirement after last season.

"When I read the job description, I felt like I was the person they were looking for," Law said. "I'm from Indiana and have family in Indiana, so I feel like I'm returning home. I think I'm going to enjoy become part of the family at Broad Ripple."

Law spent six years as an assistant, then was coach at Whites Creek, Tenn. He led the school to a state quarterfinal appearance in his first year and to the state semifinals in 2009. Law resigned after the season and spent the 2010 season as an assistant at Beech High School in Hendersonville, Tenn.

Thirty local players were included in Hoosier Basketball Magazine's Top 100 senior girls players. They will continue to be evaluated and 60 will be invited to the magazine's Top 60 Senior Girls' Workout on March 13 at Marian University. Local players listed on Page C5. . . . The NFL Network will televise the Team USA-Team World high school football all-star game on tape-delay at 4:30 p.m. today. Warren Central linemen Kiaro Holts and Kris Hartley participated in the game, which was played Feb. 2 in Austin, Texas. Team USA won, 21-14.
