Muhammad leads list of players in Jordan Brand Classic

By Jim Halley, USA TODAY

As the consensus top-rated basketball recruit, Shabazz Muhammad of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) has the skills and size at 6-5 and 220 pounds that occasionally mean that he's compared to Michael Jordan.

Of course, it's ridiculous for any high school guard to be compared to a Hall of Fame guard, but on April 14, Muhammad will be playing in the Jordan Brand Classic all-star game in Charlotte. The game will be televised live on ESPN.

Muhammad leads the list of players selected for the game, which includes St. Anthony (Jersey City) guard Kyle Anderson, Grace Prep (Arlington, Texas) center Ike Austin, and center Kaleb Tarczewski of St. Mark's (Southborough, Mass.).

While there are no players from top-ranked Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), the game includes two big men from No. 2- ranked Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.): Brandon Ashley and Anthony Bennett.

The rest of the squad: Kris Dunn, New London, Conn.; Archie Goodwin, Sylvan Hills (Little Rock, Ark.); Jerami Grant, DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.); Gary Harris, Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.); Danuel House, Hightower (Houston); Grant Jerrett, La Verne (Calif.) Lutheran; Brice Johnson, Edisto (Cordova, S.C.); Ricardo Ledo, South Kent, Conn.; Marcus Paige, Linn-Mar (Marion, Iowa); Tony Parker, Miller Grove, (Lithonia, Ga.); Alex Poythress, Northeast (Clarksville, Tenn.); Rodney Purvis, Upper Room Christian (Raleigh, N.C.); Rasheed Sulaimon, Strake Jesuit (Houston); and J.P. Tokoto, Menomonee (Milwaukee).

While Muhammad has not decided on a college choice, most of the players in the game have already signed with a college. Arizona has three signees (Tarczewski, Jerrett and Ashley), as does North Carolina (Paige, Tokoto and Johnson).

The Jordan Brand Classic will also include a Regional Game, showcasing the top high school players from the state of North Carolina in an East vs. West showdown and the fifth annual International Game featuring 16 of the top 17-and-under players from around the world.
